Featured Lawtina: Janie Martinez

Janie shares a little bit of her story with us from her Instagram page:

"Today I graduate from UNTDallas College of Law! Last year at this time I was gearing up to take summer classes after I had taken a medical leave of absence for a semester. I remember my therapist and doctors telling me “you may not ever be able to go back to law school”, and that devastated me. God had other plans, he gave me the strength to push through. I came back and took 10 hours that summer 34 hours over the next school year. This law degree is for my grandparents who did not hesitate to raise me be the women I am today, who instilled in my the value of education and hard work. This would not be possible without them by any means. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

To my grandma who pretty much pulled all nighters with me begging me to get some sleep every exam period, who packed me lunch and made sure I ate. To my grandpa who took me to and from school, therapy, and doctors appointments every day. To my husband, who has been my biggest cheerleader, who believed in my when even I couldn’t. To my sister Alexis who in her own way always showed me the support I needed through this journey. To my Tio Hugo who gives me the world just like when I was a little girl even If he’s nagging me along the way. To my Tio Raul and Tia Anna who have played a pivotal role in my education and more importantly my life. To my Mom, Rusty, and Guri who always cheer me on. To my bestfriends Esaul, Yara and all my friends who I’ve neglected these past three years for understanding the work I had to put in for us to be here. To my godparents, cousins and rest of my family for their constant support. To Daniella, Messeret, Taylor, Ian, Sony, Azanet, Veronica, Vera, Asibi, Jasmine, Jessica, Jenae and Kim for making this journey bearable with your friendship and all the good times. WE ALL MADE IT."
